Celebrating Friendship and Culinary Success at Vị Sài Gòn Restaurant Reunion

Yesterday afternoon, when I received a call from Dũng, I felt a surge of excitement and joy. “I’ve arrived in Saigon! Let’s meet tonight at my restaurant Vị Sài Gòn!” Dũng’s invitation was like a warm embrace, evoking fond memories of the past. At 7:30 PM, I quickly made my way to Dũng’s restaurant. It had been a long time since we last met—almost ten years since that day in Huế when Dũng visited my restaurant on Võ Thị Sáu.

As I stepped into the restaurant, I immediately recognized Dũng. He still exuded charm, good looks, and youthfulness, perhaps even looking younger than before. Although he is approaching 60, Dũng maintains a fit, stylish appearance, complete with a well-groomed beard. It was wonderful to see my friend still brimming with vitality and style.

An Emotional Reunion

That evening, over drinks, we had the chance to reconnect with old friends like Khánh, Bổn, and Thạch—fellow tour leaders from Intrepid. Those who once traveled together from Buffalo are now working in Đà Nẵng. This reunion was not just a casual meet-up; it was an opportunity for us to reminisce about old times and discuss the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

We shared stories of the difficulties the tourism industry faced during the pandemic. While everyone encountered hardships, together we found a glimmer of hope. The pandemic had passed, and now each of us was beginning a new chapter in our lives.

Dũng and the Vị Restaurant Chain

Currently, Dũng operates five Vị restaurants, including two in Saigon, one in Huế, and two in Hanoi. His Vị restaurant chain not only attracts diners but also gathers many tour leaders and travel companies within the industry. The rapid success of this restaurant chain is the result of relentless efforts before, during, and after the pandemic.

“I have many other projects in mind,” Dũng shared with an enthusiastic gleam in his eye. He plans to expand the Vị restaurant chain to key destinations across Vietnam. This isn’t just a dream; it’s an ambitious goal that Dũng is determined to make a reality.

Cherished Memories and Aspirations

We reminisced about memorable past experiences, from trips to famous tourist spots to joyful celebrations. We also reflected on the challenges each of us faced during the pandemic.

“No matter how difficult things get, we must continue to strive,” Dũng said. “I believe that with effort and passion, Vị will not only become a renowned brand in the country but can also reach international heights in the near future.”

Farewells and Hope

As the clock struck midnight, we decided it was time to part ways. The next morning, Bổn would head out with a group of Intrepid guests, while Khánh would join the Mekong Trails tour. Yet, in my heart, I knew that Dũng would quickly become a successful entrepreneur in the Vietnamese culinary scene.

As we said our goodbyes, I couldn’t help but feel proud of Dũng’s achievements. With his foresight and determination, I am confident he will continue to reap even greater success in the future.

A Memorable Evening Comes to a Close

The evening at Vị Sài Gòn was more than just a simple gathering; it was an occasion to reminisce, share dreams, and affirm that no matter how challenging life gets, friendship and camaraderie will help us overcome any obstacles.

Leaving the restaurant filled with hope and excitement for the future, I reflected on Dũng and all he has accomplished and will achieve. He stands as a testament to perseverance and unwavering effort. I can’t wait to see Vị expand not just within Vietnam but also internationally, bringing the flavors of Vietnamese cuisine to the world stage.
